What Is Sliding?
The Basics
-
Sliding
Sliding is a performance technique used by stunt performers and scare actors. It involves moving at high speed and sliding across the ground toward a person or object, often creating sparks and sound using specialized equipment.
-
It is most commonly used in haunted attractions as a high-intensity scare tactic, but some performers also use it for choreographed tricks and shows.

Where does it come from?
Sliding originated at Knott's Scary Farm (US theme park) in the late 1980s. It was developed by scare actors in the Ghost Town area who were looking for new ways to scare guests, often by messing around on quieter nights.
Early sliders used duct tape on their gloves and knees, which eventually hardened to a plastic-like consistency from the heat and friction, allowing them to glide across the ground.
